What is the purpose of ASUO?

I believe that the purpose of ASUO is to allow student representation in the decision-making processes that impact the UO student body. Therefore, ASUO ensures that decisions are being made with the interests of students in mind. ASUO is the means by which the student voice is elevated and given power.

Why are you running for office?

As an active member of multiple student organizations on campus, I feel passionate about setting up student organizations for success. I feel that it is important for student organizations to have access to resources in order to best serve the interests of the student body, which is why I am interested in the Programs Finance Committee. I feel that the connection between the Programs Finance Committee and student organizations helps to keep our student body engaged outside of the classroom, and I feel strongly about ensuring that student organizations have the resources they need to best serve the student body.

What relevant experience, qualifications, passions, and/or skills do you have?

As a member of the EMU Board during the 2020-2021 school year, I have learned about how student leadership functions. Furthermore, as a member of the House Subcommittee for the EMU Board, I have worked on EMU policies and have considered how those policies impact the student organizations that operate in the EMU. Through being involved with student organizations myself, I feel that I have a unique insight into how student organizations operate and what they need in order to be successful

What do you think it means to be a leader?

I think being a leader means lifting up the people around you and pushing both yourself and everyone else to be better. I also believe that the most effective leaders are those who hold themselves accountable and view leadership not as a position of power, but rather as an opportunity to lead by example.

If you are elected, how will you leverage your position to advance the needs of students?

If elected to PFC, I hope to use my position to listen to the needs of student organizations and advocate for them. As a student organization member myself, I feel that my unique insight into the process of running a student organization will help me to better understand the struggles and needs of student organizations. I also feel that my insight will help me to more effectively advocate for the needs of student organizations.
