Why are you running in the ASUO Elections?
My name is Aaron Busi (he/him), and I'm from SE Portland, Oregon. I'm a first-year studying Business and Planning, Public Policy, and Management, and I'm beyond excited to be running for the Seat 19 position in the Senate. The only agenda I'm pushing is transparency within the Senate and mending the narrative surrounding ASUO. My utmost priority is making empathetic, informed, and consistent decisions as a senator. I'm community-oriented and want to meet, work with, and get to know as many LCB students and clubs as possible to make the most informed decisions within the Senate to help students thrive and become more involved.
As one of the most front facing parts of ASUO, how do you plan on making these interactions as positive as possible for students?
I grew up, K-12, in the same school district in Portland, the largest and most diverse in Oregon. Growing up in that environment and serving as Student Body President last year has developed my sense of leadership and empathy. I've had to interact and collaborate with a vast range of different identities and perspectives that have made me a more informed and empathetic person. Taking measures to integrate myself further into the community and my prior experience will allow me to make better decisions within the Senate and treat student organizations with the respect they deserve.
How are you connected to the academic programs you represent? How will you utilize these connections to best represent students?
As a first-year, I am currently a member of the International Business & Economics Club, working towards joining the Oregon Consulting Group, and nearing becoming a Lundquist Admissions Office Duck Guide. Although unrelated to Business, I am a proud member of the South Asian Cultural Alliance, and I am striving to become more involved at the UO Multicultural Center. It's vital for me to contribute and give back to my community in a diverse number of ways, as it makes me a better person who can represent and lead students properly.
