Why are you running in the ASUO Elections?
My name is Bella Hoffert-Hay, I use she/her pronouns and I'm a third-year English and Political Science major from Albany, OR. I am running for ASUO because there are few ways in which we are able to have an impact on where our money is going. This position allows us to be representatives of what students actually want and deserve! I have lived and worked on campus my entire time at UO, and so campus life has really remained integral to my experience. As an organizer with UOSW, I have gotten to spend most of my time with workers on the ground, talking to people and learning how we can make our experience better in the years that we get to spend here. I'm excited to take my passion for organizing to the next level, and I plan to be a senator who will help better the community that we have here.
As one of the most front facing parts of ASUO, how do you plan on making these interactions as positive as possible for students?
I am always excited to learn more about different student groups on campus, and I think that part of what makes UO awesome is the variety of different groups we have here. I will always be an active-listener, ask questions when I have them, and try and make sure everyone feels heard and understood. I want to make everyone feel welcomed, and create an environment where having questions or concerns is valued, and we are able to listen to each other. Speaking in front of large groups can be intimidating, and I want to ensure that everyone feels respected and encouraged to make a difference for their club or group.
Is there a particular ASUO funded service or organization (or multiple) that you are passionate about and hope to work with? Why?
Although all of the ASUO organizations are important, a few stand out to me from my personal experience with them. I would love to work more with Duck Rides, as student workers that give the invaluable service of ensuring everyone can get home safe I think they have such a unique position on campus. Also University Theatre is an organization that not only provides amazing experiences for the students involved, but also for our entire community. I'm excited for the opportunity to learn more about all these organizations on campus, and help them get the funds they deserve.
