Tell us about yourself.

My name is Diego, and I use He/Him pronouns. I'm a second-year History major from Chicago, and I'm excited to work for the students of UO.

What are the three key issues that you've noticed on campus that you hope to improve for students as an elected official?
Please list each issue and briefly explain how you hope to improve it.

There's a disconnect between student organizations and ASUO. I'm in leadership of a large club on campus, and nobody except our treasurer really knows how to interact with student government. I want to make ASUO, particularly finance, a more accessible and transparent system. Students at the UO feel like they have very little say in what happens on campus. Every decision seems to be made by faceless bureaucrats. I believe that students should be calling the shots for our own educations, and will work to democratize UO. Student cultural organizations have complained about feeling ignored and mistreated by the university. This is contrary to university values and harmful to students, and I want to work closely with those groups to improve their experience.

Why are you running?

I'm running to fix the problems I just talked about. Why else would anyone do this?
