Tell us about yourself.
My name is Donovan Selfridge, and I’m a first year at the University of Oregon. I use he/him pronouns. I’m from Portland, Oregon, where I’ve lived my whole life. I’m currently a linguistics major, as well as being in the Clark Honors College.
What are the three key issues that you've noticed on campus that you hope to improve for students as an elected official?
Please list each issue and briefly explain how you hope to improve it.
The main thing I’ve noticed is a lack of awareness surrounding student involvement for students. There are so many great ways for students to be involved, such as university wide committees. I want to make it easier for students to hear about and take advantage of these opportunities, through advertising and events. I’d also like to tackle the registration process, namely how people pick classes. I hope to make syllabuses available before registration so students have a better idea of what the class will be like. Finally, I want to improve the relationship between ASUO and the students it represents. This starts with more transparency within ASUO and communication between branches and more communication with students; students deserve to know how their student government operates.
Why are you running?
I’m running because I see a lot of potential in the projects being worked on by ASUO and I don’t want to let them die. ASUO is a great place to make things happen, whether by being a part of it or by supporting student organizations, and I want to be a part of that system and uplift others.
