Why are you running in the ASUO Elections?

My name is Hadi Charamand; I go by he/him pronouns. I am currently a sophomore at UO from Portland, Oregon, studying Accounting with a minor in Computer Information and Technology. I am running in the ASUO election because I’m interested in gaining experience and working with others in a professional setting where people have the same goals that I do. I also want to put myself in a position that I’m not very used to, and I feel like being a part of a student government will allow me to break out of my comfort zone a little and learn a lot about how to manage a student government/what that looks like. I'm also hoping to have a say in any campus policies that could improve student life, and being a part of that change with everyone here would show and teach me so much.

Is there a particular ASUO funded service or organization (or multiple) that you are passionate about and hope to work with? Why?

Through this position, I would like to be able to oversee how ASUO works and how the funding process supports student organizations. I currently am an officer within the Muslim Student Association, and I know how important student cultural organizations are for students. As a result, I would like to ensure that these organizations are well-funded and supported on campus. I would also want to work with club organizations because I want to be able to understand what goes on behind the scenes for other clubs and understand what diverse needs and support they require. I would love to also work with any conflict resolution services as I believe they are here to help students on campus who are scared or feel ashamed of having a voice on their own. These organizations help bring up conflicts and raise awareness in a peaceful manner, which is something I’m interested in working on.
