Why are you running in the ASUO Election?

My name is Hadi Charamand and I am currently a Junior at UO from Portland, Oregon, studying Accounting with a minor in Computer Information and Technology. I am running in the ASUO election because I’m interested in gaining experience and working with others in a professional setting where people have the same goals that I do. I also want to put myself in a position that I’m not very used to, and I feel like being a part of a student government will allow me to break out of my comfort zone a little and learn a lot about how to manage a student government/what that looks like. I'm also hoping to have a say in any campus policies that could improve student life, and being a part of that change with everyone here would show and teach me so much.

How are you connected to the academic programs you represent? How will you utilize these connections to best represent students?

As an Accounting major at the Lundquist College of Business, I would say I'm very connected to the academic programs I would represent through both my coursework and my involvement with students across the business school. I regularly work alongside peers in accounting and other areas which has helped me understand the different academic experiences and challenges students have. Staying connected through my involvement on campus has also taught me a lot, and it's where I work with and hear from students with different interests and concerns on certain topics. That has shown me that strong representation starts with listening and being present, not just speaking on behalf of others. I want to create a reliable point of contact for anyone to build a stronger relationship with the communication between the student body and leadership.
