Why are you running in the ASUO Elections?

My name is Logan Taylor (He/Him), I am a first-year psychology and philosophy student from Bainbridge Island WA, and I am running with UO Student Power. I am very involved in the campus community (Go Ducks!) and participate in a variety of student organizations. I did not come to UO expecting to get involved in student government whatsoever, but the more time I have spent here, the more I have discovered how important it is to have students in positions of power who genuinely listen and care. So far, I have seen firsthand how student-led organizations and events (on or off campus) shape our community, and it is my goal to make sure they have the support and funding they deserve. This year, I have worked as an ASUO intern, with my main responsibilities being working on and researching for a report on CFC contracts and attending and observing weekly senate meetings. Through this, I have learned how ASUO operates – and where it can be improved. As a CFC senator, I will work to amplify student voices, financial transparency, and ensure that ASUO is a resource for all students, and I am committed to ensuring that campus resources are accessible, well-funded, and representative of student interests. Vote for me this spring to make sure that your government works for you!

As one of the most front facing parts of ASUO, how do you plan on making these interactions as positive as possible for students?

My main goal is to approach every interaction with openness and honesty. Through talking with people out and about, and my own experience as a student, it seems that many students don’t fully understand what ASUO does, or even that it exists, and that’s a problem! It will be my goal to help bridge the gap by making ASUO more approachable and engaged for all students – whether that’s through more outreach programs, simpler financial processes, or by simply being available to listen. I’ll make it a priority as a senator to engage with student groups and individuals regularly, not just when issues arise. As students in a role elected by and representing other students, it makes no sense for ASUO to be anything but helpful and understanding, and it will be my mission to maintain a supportive environment – especially when it comes to the senate. We have such great potential to make this campus and community even better, and I am determined to work towards the goal of a better UO!

Is there a particular ASUO funded service or organization (or multiple) that you are passionate about and hope to work with? Why?

I believe that every contract under the ASUO Contract Finance Committee plays a vital role in supporting students, and I am committed to ensuring that each one is maintained and improved to best serve our campus. From the LTD transit passes to student legal services, these contracts provide essential resources that many students rely on daily. As a senator, I will prioritize financial transparency and student input in evaluating these services and possibly finding areas where new contracts could be created. I am particularly passionate about rebuilding the OSA because I feel that is crucial to have on-campus, organized access to our state legislature. By returning this program to the University of Oregon, we will further our ability as students to rally and make meaningful and necessary change. It will also be my goal to work towards a long term and sustainable funding solution for the Spencer View Co-op, as it provides a crucial childcare solution for student parents, a group which is often overlooked in campus discussions. By working closely with the Co-Op, I hope to expand support for student parents and protect their access to necessary basic needs.
