Why are you running in the ASUO Elections?

Hello, I’m Melania Kitsis (she/her), a Sophomore with Junior standing majoring in Accounting. I am also pursuing my Master’s in Finance through the 3+1 pathway. I’m originally from West Linn Oregon and I’m running for the Programs Finance Committee At-Large 03 position. My previous involvement in student organizations, including serving as Treasurer and Co-President of MSU, as well as my current role on the PFC committee, has equipped me with the experience needed to succeed in this position. Through my experience with ASUO, I’ve encountered challenges with budget allocations, support, and stipend recognition while being part of a student organization. If elected, I want to be a supportive resource for student organizations, offering the assistance they need. My goal is to build meaningful connections with these organizations and advocate for their needs, ensuring their voices are heard within ASUO.

Is there a particular ASUO funded service or organization (or multiple) that you are passionate about and hope to work with? Why?

I am particularly passionate about supporting identity-based organizations, such as MEChA, SACA, LMA, VSA, and MSU. As the current Co-President and Treasurer of the Mixed Student Union (MSU), I have firsthand experience navigating ASUO processes, particularly during budget season. I understand the challenges organizations face, and I am eager to help make the process as smooth and stress-free as possible. My goal is to ensure that all organizations, especially those with unique needs, feel supported and well-informed throughout the budgeting process. Additionally, I want to extend my support to all student organizations, making sure my TAGS have someone dedicated to advocating for their best interests. I aim to be a resource that not only provides guidance but also fosters a collaborative and inclusive environment where student organizations can thrive.
