Why are you running in the ASUO Election?

Hello, my name is Trevor Robidou (he/him), and I am a third-year Classics and Economics major at the University of Oregon running for Seat 7 with UO Student Power. I currently serve as an ASUO Department of Finance Executive Designee, where I have worked with student funded departments like Basic Needs and SGES, and I also work as a student assistant in research integrity. Furthermore, I have volunteered with the student food pantry, where I saw firsthand how important strong support systems are for students. These experiences have shown me both how student government works and where it can do better. I have seen how many students struggle to access the resources they need, especially those from communities that are too often unheard. If elected, I will fight for funding that supports students’ basic needs, including childcare, transportation, food security, and essential campus resources. I will work to lower student costs, strengthen sexual violence prevention education, expand awareness of legal resources, and support services students rely on, like 24/7 libraries. I want to help build an ASUO that listens to students and delivers real support.

As one of the most front facing parts of ASUO, how do you plan on making these interactions as positive as possible for students?

I believe the most important part of making students’ interactions with ASUO positive is being as transparent, accessible, and responsive as possible. Students should know what Senate is doing, how decisions are being made, and how ASUO can support them. When student government feels distant or unclear, it becomes harder for students to trust that it is working for them. I want to help create a Senate that is more connected to student life and to the organizations that make up our campus community. I would support initiatives that help student organizations better understand what ASUO Senate does, how it can assist them, and how they can make their voices heard. I also want Senate to work more closely with students so that communication goes both ways and students feel genuinely listened to. To me, positive interactions come from trust, openness, and real engagement. If Senate is visible, honest, and involved in student life, then students will be more likely to see it as a resource rather than something distant. That is the kind of ASUO I want to help build.

Is there a particular ASUO funded service or organization (or multiple) that you are passionate about and hope to work with? Why?

I am especially passionate about working with Basic Needs because I have seen firsthand how important its services are for students. I really enjoyed volunteering with the student food pantry, and I also valued the chance to work with Basic Needs on its budget as a Department of Finance Executive Designee. That experience showed me how much these services matter and how much more support many students still need. If elected, I would love to work more closely with Basic Needs to help expand support for students, including strengthening programs like Ducks Feeding Ducks and looking for better ways to address food insecurity on campus, especially around the point system used for food. I am also passionate about improving the Lane Transit District contract so we can reduce costs for students and better fund the departments and services students rely on. In addition, I would be interested in working with the Women’s Center and Legal Services to expand sexual violence prevention education and strengthen support for students on our campus.
