Tell us about yourself.

My name is Jordan Ackemann (he/him), I am a third year Planning, Public Policy, and Management undergraduate. I am currently the treasurer of the Student Community Organization, an active member of Climate Justice League, and have participated in a steering committee for Lane Transit District to help them better communicate with the public. I am from Santa Cruz CA!

What are the three key issues that you've noticed on campus that you hope to improve for students as an elected official? Please list each issue and briefly explain how you hope to improve it.

Student Power: This is the ability for the student body to have control and say in the governing of the University. The ASUO must begin work towards a democratically responsive administration that listens to what the students and public decide instead of what billionaires and businesses do. Better Surplus Allocation: ASUO must think about the students' basic needs. ASUO has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on concerts that are unnecessary and wasteful. The ASUO should leave the party planning to student organizations. Health Care: The sudden closure of University District Hospital left a large hole in the healthcare needs of students. This gap leaves behind many students who cannot go off campus for treatments. There is currently a need for 24h healthcare on campus.

Why are you running?

I am running for Senate to begin rebuilding student power on campus so we can have a say in our school's decisions. On CFC, I will continue to fund transportation services while looking for opportunities to work with other university and community organizations to fill the health care void that the ER closure created. Vote for a more responsive and representative student government, vote for myself.
