Tell us about yourself.

My name is Eleanor Potter (she/her) and I am currently a third year human physiology major from Portland, Oregon! I work as the Program Coordinator of the Oregon Society of Addiction Medicine and intern at North Eugene High School. In my free time, I compete on the UO Alpine ski team, am a member of Kappa Alpha Theta, and am training for the Eugene Half Marathon!

What are the three key issues that you've noticed on campus that you hope to improve for students as an elected official? Please list each issue and briefly explain how you hope to improve it.

I plan to directly improve access to student healthcare, equitable housing, and harm reduction resources. Considering the Student Health Center is closed on the weekends and the recent closure of the University District Emergency Room, students do not have proper access to medical care on weekends. In response, I hope to contract a 24 hour care team for students on weekends. Currently, many apartment companies hold a monopoly on student housing leading to inequitable rental prices. To assist with the current housing crisis, I will establish funding for subsidized housing co-ops funded through local ballot measures and state aid. Finally, I hope to work with harm reduction organizations to schedule more frequent Naloxone trainings for students to better prepare for instances of drug overdoses.

Why are you running?

I am running for Contracts Finance Senate seat 06 in hopes of better allocating student funding while making student funded services accessible to all. Reallocation of the Incidental Fee can ensure students’ basic needs such as food, medical care, and housing are met. Additionally, I hope to give space for students and organizations whose voices have not historically been fiscally supported by ASUO.
