Hi! My name is Emma Leland (she/her/hers) and I'm from Portland, Oregon. I'm a junior studying sports business with a minor in media studies.
What are the three key issues that you've noticed on campus that you hope to improve for students as an elected official? Please list each issue and briefly explain how you hope to improve it.
1) A lack of student engagement with clubs- There are TONS of incredible clubs just in LCB and through discussions with leaders, it is clear that attendance is an issue. I want to create educational programming about how to increase member engagement, events to connect clubs with potential members and focus on increasing engagement. 2) A lack of education about how ASUO works- There is a glaring lack of education about how ASUO works, how to gain funding, and how to maximize clubs' abilities. I want to collaborate with DCICC and LCB clubs to help clubs gain more funding and in turn, get to do more cool things! 3) Not enough collaboration between areas of study- I want to create more opportunities for LCB students
Why are you running?
I am running because I believe in what the LCB brings to its students and want to encourage people within the school to maximize their experience. If I can help one student find their club/passion/people, I will feel successful in my term in office. I think that there is a TON of untapped potential and want to be a part of facilitating and helping students take advantage of all LCB has to offer.
