Tell us about yourself.
My name is Kyle Richardson (He/Him). I grew up in Denver, Colorado but have called Eugene my home for the past three years. I’m currently a junior studying Accounting and Finance with a minor in Economics. I spent this past summer wildland firefighting, which has been extremely fulfilling. I enjoy snowboarding and exploring the outdoors in my free time. I’m always down to try something new!
What are the three key issues that you've noticed on campus that you hope to improve for students as an elected official?
Please list each issue and briefly explain how you hope to improve it.
Student Food Security. I intend to increase the financial resources the Basic Needs Program has to aid students. This program is significantly over-utilized and food security remains a significant problem on campus. Improve the academic experience. Duckweb needs upgrades to be more accessible and useful for students. Professor accountability must become a priority. I know I can help push admin to fix these serious problems. Reduce wastage for Student-funded units. The I-fee has increased a ridiculous amount over the past 5 years, while student impact has been relatively unchanged. I will ensure that every I-fee dollar is used responsibly and positively impacts students. Financial reporting standards need to be stricter to ensure every I-fee-funded unit is living up to the costs they impose on students.
Why are you running?
I’m running to continue my work on the Departments Finance Committee, ensuring responsible, equitable, and impactful use of student funding without passing unnecessary costs onto students. I will continue to support the 16 departments I’ve built relationships with while ensuring responsible use. I’m eager to step into a senate position to equitably deal with the surplus problem plaguing ASUO.
