Why are you running in the ASUO Elections?

My name is Parker Nagy (he/him) and I am a second-year student originally from Eugene, OR. I am double majoring in Political Science and PPPM. I am running for office because I believe that transparency and open communication are principles of governance that should be reflected in the ASUO Senate. The Senate exists to represent students and the voices of all students should be heard. I also believe that it is important to ensure that a college education remains affordable and accessible for all students and that all students should be able to thrive. This includes ensuring affordable tuition and housing, as well as robust support for the Basic Needs Program. In addition, support for the wide range of extracurriculars, clubs, and other programs funded by the ASUO is essential. Representing the wide array of majors included within Senate Seat 11 requires listening and clear communication, which I believe I can provide.

As one of the most front facing parts of ASUO, how do you plan on making these interactions as positive as possible for students?

I will always listen to all student organizations when they speak before the Senate. These students are truly committed to the organizations they represent and are advocating for what they believe is best for their organization. This is something I will always keep in mind and use to guide my interactions. Another important part of ensuring a positive interaction is actively listening, not just hearing what they are saying, but closely and carefully considering it, as the speakers are taking a great deal of time to express their views. I will be sure to carefully take note of all view expressed and not make decisions before hearing the organizations speak.

How are you connected to the academic programs you represent? How will you utilize these connections to best represent students?

As a political science student I have numerous connections through my time in the major, however, I also have taken language classes and have interacted with many professors affiliated with departments such as history through my time in the Honors College. These interactions have allowed me to develop a broad understanding of many of the programs within this Senate seat. I will utilize this broad understanding to ensure that all majors within Senate Seat 11 are fully represented with no one major being favored, or disadvantaged, over any other. It is important that students have a voice at the table, and my connections would allow me to successfully be that voice.
