Why are you running in the ASUO Elections?
Hi, my name is Jacob Brantingham (he/him), and I’m a product design student at UO. I lived in Los Angeles during my high school years, and before that, I grew up in Shanghai, China. I’m excited to be running for a position in ASUO to make student government more accessible. In my past experiences, student government has often felt distant and unapproachable, so I aim to be more available to listen to students' concerns and take action to address them. If I am elected, I would be happy to meet with students to discuss the issues they would like to see changed.
Is there a particular ASUO funded service or organization (or multiple) that you are passionate about and hope to work with? Why?
I am passionate about supporting the Co-Op Family Center, which is a daycare center that helps undergraduate and graduate students who have kids with childcare. It has historically been funded by ASUO, but the goal is to find a long-term funding plan. Great childcare is vital for both a child's early development and to give the parent the freedom to go to class. Another organization that interests me is the Lane Transit District Student Pass Program. Students have access to a free bus pass that nearly no students are aware of, so spreading awareness of that could help students get from place to place. When I was a freshman without a car, if I had known about the free bus pass, it would have been super helpful and convenient for me.
