Why are you running in the ASUO Elections?
I am a junior at the University of Oregon studying Planning, Public Policy, and Management with a minor in Chemistry. I am originally from Klamath Falls, OR. I use she/her pronouns. I am running for ASUO's Programs Finance Committee At-Large Seat 01 with the UO Student Power Slate because I want to ensure that all UO’s diverse programs have the budgets they need to thrive and support our students. I hope to make a positive impact on the programs that make our school a community, as this is something I am very passionate about. Students rely on and care about these programs, so that’s where their funds should go. I also am excited to support the causes associated with UO Student Power, such as labor rights, multiculturalism, and student basic needs. I have worked for the University for a year and a half now in two different roles, so I understand what student workers need in terms of support. I have also volunteered in the Student Food Pantry since my freshman year, which has reinforced my commitment to funding basic needs programs at UO. I hope to bring these passions and experiences to make a positive impact within ASUO.
Is there a particular ASUO funded service or organization (or multiple) that you are passionate about and hope to work with? Why?
I have worked with the Basic Needs Program since my freshman year and believe that it is an invaluable resource for students across department, income, and background. Additionally, since becoming a Resident Assistant in Barnhart in September 2024, I have gained appreciation for the importance of transportation and safety resources that ASUO funds, like the LTD transit pass, DuckRides, rideshare services, and more. However I think it is so important to balance these necessary resources with programs that enrich the lives of students. Events, concerts, conferences, and guest speakers allow campus culture and student life to thrive here at UO. Whether it is a SOMD Dance Recital, the Hip Hop Jam, ASUO-hosted concerts, the Street Faire, or theatrical performances, I love supporting my fellow ducks and gaining new experiences afforded to me through the ASUO budget.
