Why are you running in the ASUO Elections?Hi, I'm Rory Forsythe-Elder (he/him). I'm a sophomore majoring in Spatial Data Science and Business Administration. I'm originally from Cave Junction, a small town in Southern Oregon and the home of the Oregon Caves National Monument. I am interested in representing my fellow students in the ASUO, championing transparency and working to limit unnecessary bureaucracy.
As one of the most front facing parts of ASUO, how do you plan on making these interactions as positive as possible for students? I plan on prioritizing transparency in these interactions and being honest and up-front with students and student organizations and groups. Furthermore, as a student dining worker, I will look to represent student workers of all kinds and advocate for them in all regards.
Is there a particular ASUO funded service or organization (or multiple) that you are passionate about and hope to work with? Why? As a Legal Studies minor, I am particularly passionate about the Prison Education program. During this past Fall term, I took an inside-out class with about a dozen fellow university students, where each week we travelled to Oregon State Correctional Institution in Salem and learned alongside men incarcerated there. It was an absolutely intriguing and inspiring experience, even as some of the stories and situations were sorrowful. The Prison Education program holds classes both for mixed classes of inside and outside students, as well as ones just for inside students. I believe it is one of the university's most meaningful organizations.
